Square Planting

pp1

Distance between rows and between tress is approximately the same.

Hedgerow Planting

pp2

Distance between trees in a row is much closer then in any other pattern.

Interplanting

pp3

Interplanting a tree in the center of four trees in a square planting.

Diamond Planting

pp4

(DIAMOND) All trees are the same distance from each other.

Square & Hedgerow Plantings

Tree Spacings – Distance between trees within a row.

Using the Tree Calculator

Finding the Number of Trees Per Acre

To find the trees per acre for a square or hedgerow planting, enter the number of trees between the rows and the number of feet between the trees and hit compute trees per acre.

If you have  between rows, and  between trees.

You will need approximately trees per acre.

Square or Hedgerow Plantings

Using Manual Calculation

To manually calculate trees per acre, multiply the distance between rows by the distance between trees and divide into 43560.

Triangle Plantings
To manually calculate trees per acre, multiply the distance between trees by itself (square the distance between trees), divide into 43560, and add 15% to the results of the division.

Double Plantings
To manually calculate trees per acre, divide the distance between two interplant rows into 208. Divide the distance between two trees within a single row into 208. Add the results of these two divisions. Save this number for the last step. Multiply the distance between two trees within a row and divide into 43560. Double this number and reduce it by the sum of the two divisions.

Using the Tree Spacing Chart

To find trees per acre in square or hedgerow plantings, locate your row spacing on the left-hand side of the chart and follow this line across to the column for your tree spacing, labeled at the top of the column.
